Travel to and around Spain
Flying to Spain
There are many international airports on mainland Spain, including Madrid, Barcelona, Malaga, and Alicante. Although there are international flights available to most large Spanish cities.
With the flight time from London to Spain, it is only 2 hours and 30 minutes on average, it is an ideal destination for a short break-away!
Travel by Boat
Ferry services run between the UK and Spain, as well as other countries like France, Italy, Morocco, and Algeria.
Public Transport
Think about your carbon footprint and take the more environmentally-friendly route of travel. Using public transport can be slower, but it can be nice to take a proper break from the hectic 9-5.
I would definitely recommend using public transport for a city break in Spain...
Travel by Train and Rail
If traveling from central Europe then taking the train can be a no-brainer.
- Renfe - Renfe Spanish railway offers great ticket options for traveling around Spain by train, especially due to their Visit Spain Pass. This flexible pass is available for non-Spanish citizens, with the choice of 4, 6, 8, or 10 journeys (to be used within 1 month) it ranges from €195 for an adult. Click here for more info on the Renfe Spain pass prices. Visit their website to also book standard tickets online.
- InterRail (for European citizens or residents) If you're wanting to travel to Spain by train, there's also the Interrail Country Pass. This includes unlimited travel by train in Spain for either 3, 4, 5, 6, or 8 non-consecutive days of your choice within 1 month. An adult ticket (28 years +) for 3 days within 1 month is €170. If you're looking to travel across Europe by train, then opt for the Global Pass which provides access to train travel in 33 countries across Europe, including Spain!
- EURail (for non-European citizens or residents) EURail is essentially the same as InterRail but is for non-European citizens or residents. It also offers both country-specific and Global Passes.
Travel by Bus
The bus network in Spain is pretty expensive and covers most towns and villages. However, there are several bus operators in Spain. Use the Movelia website to check different bus timetables, or the main bus companies in Spain are ALSA, Avanza, and Socibus.

Driving Spain
If you are looking to do a European road trip through Spain, or just want to have a car to explore rural areas, then here are my top tips for driving in Spain:
- The UK to Spain- Due to the fast and well-maintained motorways in France, the drive from the UK to the Spanish border takes only approx. 15 hours, with a distance of around 900 miles. However, I wouldn't recommend driving it in one hit! Make sure you break up the journey with a couple of stop-offs. Alternatively, you can take your car on the ferry from the UK to Santander in northern Spain. However, the ferry route passes through the Bay of Biscay - renowned for its rough seas. AKA, not the best option if you get sick sea!
Remember: You must have either a nationality number plate or a sticker displayed on the back of your vehicle, when driving in Europe.
- Spanish Roads - The road conditions in Spain are generally good. Parts of the motorways do have tolls, with some being quite expensive!
- Hiring a car in Spain - If you're flying to Spain but would still like to explore by car, then you can hire a car here. All major car rental companies operate in Spain, with cars available from major airports or cities, such as Madrid and Barcelona.
Note: You will have to be at least 21 or 23 years old (depending on the rental company) to be able to hire a car.

Mooi geschreven Ruben! Het lijkt af en toe een onmogelijke opgave om inspiratie aan te boren. Maar in feite liggen de waardevolle verhalen voor het oprapen en kunnen allerlei kleine dingetjes de aanknopingspunten zijn van mooie content. Yelena Godfrey Packer
I was wondering if you ever considered changing the structure of your website? Its very well written; I love what youve got to say. But maybe you could a little more in the way of content so people could connect with it better. Youve got an awful lot of text for only having 1 or 2 pictures. Maybe you could space it out better?
