Spain at a Glance
Looking to travel to Spain? Read my blog all about Spain at a glance, along with top travel destinations, what to eat & when to visit!
Here are my key things you should know about Spain...
Located on the Iberian Peninsula, Spain is the fourth largest country in Europe. With Portugal bordering Spain to the South-West, and France to the North. Much of the terrain is flat plains surrounded by rugged hills, although in the north you will find the Pyrenees Mountain range which provides a natural border between Spain and France.
Southern Spain is probably the most well known, due to its offer of the warm Mediterranean Sea, beautiful beaches and plenty of sunshine! But don't assume that Spain is only for a beach holiday.
There are also lots of interesting historical cities and towns to explore, from the capital city of Madrid to the southern cities of Seville and Granada. As well as experiencing Spain's cultures and traditions - think flamenco dancing, fresh tapas, and sangria!

Top Travel Information for Spain
My other top travel information for Spain:
- Currency: EURO (€) - Spain is in the EU and its currency is the Euro, making it easy if you're traveling through other European countries like France.
- Plug Adapters: The plugs in Spain are the 2-pin system alike most of central Europe. If traveling to Spain from the UK then remember your plug adapters!
- Visas: Visas are not required by any EU/EEA nationals, regardless of the purpose or length of stay. As Spain is part of the Schengen Agreement, Australian, Canadian and US nationals can stay for up to 90 days without a visa. If traveling to Spain from outside Europe then check your visa requirements with your embassy.
- Eating Late: The Spanish are renowned for eating late! Lunch is served from 2 - 4 pm, with dinner as late as 9 pm! If you're lucky then some restaurants might start serving food at 8.30 pm... Snack on some tapas in the afternoon to keep you going.
- Spanish Siesta: In Spain, it is traditional to take a siesta (short nap) in the afternoon after having their midday meal. Allowing people to rest during the hottest part of the day. Hence most businesses and shops close between around 2 - 4 pm.
