Hi, we’re Helen and Tristan

Welcome to Coconuts and Camels – the online story of our travels and adventures

We are currently travelling full-time around Europe in our self-built campervan, whilst working remotely and running our online blog showcasing our outdoor travels and adventures.

We are both coffee fanatics (aka caffeine addicts) and massive foodies – both of which frequently feature in our travels. And we are also trying to cut down on our plastic footprint, working hard towards living that plastic-free life!

Our Epic European Road trip…

Since hitting the road in March 2022, we have…

Travelled through Germany – from visiting fairytale castles to exploring the Upper Bavaria region

Stopped by the beautiful Salzkammergut lake region of Austria

Experienced the amazing mountain scenes of the Dolomites in northern Italy

Enjoyed the warmer climates of Croatia – from the stunning coastline to its national parks!

Had a flying visit through Hungary to the city of Budapest

Discovered the incredible landscapes of Slovenia – from aqua rivers to high alpine plateaus…

And at over 4 months in, we still have another exciting 5 months ahead of us, until the end of November when we will head home to see family and friends over the Christmas period!

Previous Travels…

Indian Himalaya Expedition

Aged 18 I (Helen) went on a trekking and science expedition to the Indian Himalayas with the  British Exploring Society.

It was a five-week experience completely out of my comfort zone, where altitude sickness was the unknown. For three weeks I lived at over 4,800 metres, reaching 5,175 metres as my highest point.

Backpacking South-East Asia

In 2016 we packed up our bags to travel across South-East Asia for five months. We started our backpacking journey in India, spending the first couple of weeks taking in the sights of the famous Golden Triangle. Before heading south to Kerala, Goa, and Mumbai – all whilst the banknote demonetization unfolded and caused economic chaos across the country!

We then ventured east through Myanmar – the land of the temples. Followed by island hopping in Thailand and exploring the cities and countryside in the north. We will never forget the rickety old bus that took us across the border into Laos where we trekked through jungles and hill tribe villages in Luang Namtha, then traveling south through Luang Prabang and Vang Vieng.

It was then a flying visit to the Vietnamese cities before heading onto Cambodia, for a break by the sea, and seeing the famous sights of Siem Reap. We flew onto  Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, spending a few days in this metropolitan city before exploring the islands of the Philippines – the final country of our backpacking journey.

Countries Explored…
