Austria Weather – When to visit

The weather and temperature in Austria can differ hugely across the different regions, due to the varying terrain and altitude.

Is Austria warm in summer?

Austrian summers can be warm during the day, reaching around 30°C. Although the evenings are generally cooler - so don't forget to pack a sweater.

Due to the mountainous terrain, the summer months (June - August) are partial to heavy rain and thunderstorms. However, they can be sporadic and pass over quickly. 

Tip: Always carry a light-weight raincoat in summer - be prepared for a sudden downpour!

When to visit Austria?

Unless you’re planning to go for the ski season and snow, then the best time to visit Austria is when the weather is generally warmer.

Miss the crowds and save money by visiting just outside of the high summer season - either in Spring (April - May) or in Autumn (September - October). The weather is still nice during this time for outdoor activities, just without the mass crowds.

Note: The summer tourist season is from June through to August, so is best to avoid this time if possible!
