About Slap Savica
Slap Savica is located at the end of Lake Bohinj, just a 40 minute drive from Lake Bled. This waterfall is nestled within the Triglav National Park in north-west Slovenia, and derives from Crno Jezero (the Black Lake) which sits 500 metres higher in the Triglav Seven Lakes Valley.
The waterfall plunges down 78 metres into a stunning emerald pool of water below, and is known as one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Slovenia.
In fact it is actually the third most visited attraction in this amazing country! Meaning it can get very busy, especially during the peak summer season - check out the best time to visit below...
Slap is Slovenian for Waterfall
Jezero is Slovenian for Lake

There is a large car park at the bottom of the trail up to the waterfall, which cost 3 EUR for cars or 5 EUR for a motor vehicle. Use @what3words ///midgets.gracefully.hiking for directions to the car park
There's also a restaurant and small gift shop next to the car park where you can get refreshments and souvenirs.
Top Tip: Take some cash with you for the parking and entrance fee to the waterfall
Did you know that you can also start the hike up to the Seven Lakes Valley from this same car park.

You then simply follow the same route back down the mountain to the car park...

When to visit Slap Savica
- Time of year - The water flow varies between seasons, therefore the best time of year to visit Slap Savica waterfall is late spring or early summer when there's more watering gushing down the mountains from the snow melting.
- Time of day - Both the viewing platform of the waterfall and the section of stairs down to the waterfall are quite small, so it can get quite busy and overcrowded. As always we recommend visiting places either early morning or late afternoon/early evening when they tend to be quieter. And remember, this is apparently the third most visited attractions in Slovenia, so lots of group tours visit the waterfall especially during midday.
We visited Savica waterfall in mid-June and it still had a good amount of water volume to it - as seen in the photos above. Also, we got there at around 9am and it was fairly quiet.
How long to spend at Savica Waterfall
The walk up from the car park to the waterfall viewing platform takes around 25-35 minutes in total, so about an hour round trip for the hiking trail. We would then allow at least 15 minutes at the top to take photos. So you need a minimum of 1 hour and 15 minutes but it really depends on how slow you want to take the walk, especially as there's a restaurant at the bottom next to the car park and there are several picnic benches along the hiking trail. So you might want to have a coffee or some lunch during your visit here.
Can you swim in the waterfall?
No - You can't directly access the waterfalls, as they are gated off. So definitely no swimming here.
However, you can cool off after visiting Slap Savica Waterfall in the nearby Lake Bohinj!
Slap Savica Waterfall - Opening Hours
The waterfall can be visited all year round, and is open daily from 10:00 AM until 16:00 PM. Although in the summer it has longer opening hours from 8:00 AM until 20:00 PM.
