Three places you need to visit in Val Di Funes, Dolomites
The beautiful valley of Val Di Funes is nestled within the Dolomite mountain range, in northern Italy and in the South Tyrol area. It's a popular place for skiing in winter and hiking in summer, with beautiful spots to visit which look stunning all year round!
So here are just three places we would recommend visiting when in and around the Val Di Funes area in the Italian Dolomites!

1. Viewpoint of Santa Magdalena
One of our favourite spots in Val Di Funes had to be this beautiful viewpoint over the small village of Santa Magdalena / St. Maddalena!
This picture postcard village in the Dolomites is something not to be missed, and is also a super easy place to visit. Plus it looks stunning all year round, no matter what season you visit.
The key thing to note is that this viewpoint is located along a private road only accessible to local residents, so you cannot drive directly to the viewpoint - instead you must walk there!
Check out our blog post via the link below for everything you need to know about visiting the viewpoint of Santa Magdalena - from how to get there, how to find it and how long you need to spend at this enchanting spot and most importantly, when to visit!
2. Church of St. John
Just outside of the village of Santa Magdalena / St. Maddalena is the stunning Church of St. John, nestled in the Val di Funes valley.
Also known as Chiesetta di San Giovanni, this baroque chapel is surrounded by luscious green meadows, thick forests and rugged mountain peaks. And has since become a popular photography spot in the Dolomites.
In terms of visiting this place, you view the church for free from the viewing platform which gives the perfect view of the church with the mountains directly behind. Or you can pay a small fee to visit the church, where you can go inside the building and walk around the surrounding area too.
3. Geisler Alm
The third place you need to visit when in Val di Funes, is Geisler Alm.
There are several alpine lodges and rifugios dotted throughout this valley in the Dolomites, but the mountain hut of Geisler Alm is a beautiful spot that we would definitely recommend visiting when in the area.
It's not only makes for a stunning photography spot, but is also a lovely place to hike... It takes approx. 1 hour and half of walking pretty much uphill for most of the trail, but once at Geisler Alm you will be greeted with an incredible view of the mountain peaks. There is also seating for customers of the rifugio, which makes for the perfect spot to sit back and relax - especially if you visit for sunset meaning you can watch the sun light slowly set over the mountains!

Does the Geisler Alm Rifugio have good food? Would you recommend it for a meal?
Unfortunately it was closed when we arrived, but the outside menu looked inviting!
Hello, Helen:
Thank you for your information, it will be very helpful for us to go there in mid-October. Is the photo you provided of the mountain and its reflection in Geisler Alm?
Thanks!
