About Burg Eltz

This medieval castle, complete with eight towers, timber frame buildings and magical turrets, really is like something straight out of a fairy-tale picture book!

Burg Eltz is located in western Germany, only approx. 30 minute drive from Koblenz in Germany and sits just north of the Moselle river nestled deep within the hills. The castle sits high on a 70 metre rock and is surrounded by a beautiful forest and woodlands.

Fun Fact: Did you know that the same family still own this castle as those who lived here in the 12th century!

Burg means castle in German!

More info on opening times.

Visiting out of season:

Although the Burg Eltz may be closed through winter, the road down to the castle is still open throughout November to March. This means that you can still park here and walk down to the castle to see and photograph the exterior of the castle!

We actually visited the Burg Eltz in March 2022 during the "winter" season, of which the castle was closed. Therefore we could only see and photograph the exterior of the caste, but we literally had the whole place to ourselves which was pretty cool. We also visited during sunset, for those golden hour shots!
